Native American Veterans and VA Loans

If you are a part of a minority group, have you ever wondered if you were eligible for a VA Loan? Almost everyone is eligible for a VA Loan, despite race or ethnicity. For example, Native Americans are eligible for VA Loans as long as they meet certain qualifications. The qualifications for Native American Veterans are a little different than they would be for regular veterans.

Native American Veterans, who are qualified, are able to receive loans from the VA to build or remodel a home of trust lands. The VA Loans can also help a Native American veteran lower their mortgage interest rates. The amount of money that is usually given for a home loan on a trust land is no more than the price of the house, or $80,000, whichever amount comes first.

You must make sure that your tribe, or your Native American organization is under the VA direct loan program. This tribal organization must have signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. The Memorandum of Understanding includes conditioning on its participation in the program. The tribal organization must have submitted a Residential Lease Form of Tribal Owned Land form and some evidence that the tribe has foreclosure procedures in place.
